Leaders & Laggards: A State-by-State Report Card on Public Postsecondary Education

An ICW report that analyzes how state public higher education systems are performing in certain areas and whether states have policies and incentives in place to promote reform and innovation.

  The Indiana Chamber of Commerce seeks to advance policy innovation and change in higher education finance, management and instructional delivery to substantially increase the number of students who complete postsecondary education. Currently, the Indiana Chamber is leading Indiana’s participation in the Lumina Productivity Initiative, a national program aimed at increasing the percentage of college graduates in the U.S. from 40% to 60% by 2025. The Indiana initiative, funded by the Lumina Foundation for Education and conducted in partnership with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Governor’s Office, is focused specifically on performance-based funding, engagement of university trustees and productivity of regional campuses.

Indianapolis’ “jaw-dropping’’ unemployment rate of 1.9 percent for people with bachelor’s degrees catapulted it to the No. 1 spot in a new ranking of the best cities for college grads.
 
May 10, 2013: Purdue Takes Tuition Freeze to Board
The The Purdue University Board of Trustees will vote later this month on a proposed tuition freeze and some fee cuts. The board will take public comment at the May 22 meeting before making its decision.
   
May 9, 2013: Commission Makes Tuition Recommendations
The Indiana Commission for Higher Education has adopted non-binding recommendations concerning the cost of college. The organization says schools should limit tuition increases to no more than 2 percent per year over the next two years.
