September 6, 2010: Charter to Help Dropouts Get Diplomas
The Excel Center provides adults the opportunity and support to earn a high school diploma and begin post-secondary education at Ivy Tech Community College. The center is operated by Goodwill Education Initiatives and is a mayor-sponsored public charter school.
 
July 27, 2010: IU Undecided about Extending Pay Freeze
Indiana University President Michael McRobbie has yet to decide whether to recommend salary increases as part of the university’s budget requests to the Commission for Higher Education. Salaries for nearly all faculty and coaches were held flat last year as a result of a statewide budget cut to higher education.
 
July 23, 2010: IU East Eases Credit Transfers
Indiana University East and Ivy Tech Richmond are praised as a partnership between the two institutions has eased the transfer process from one institution to the other. This seamless transition is unique among other statewide institutions, which typically do not have uniform standards for transfer credits.
   

July 14, 2010: A Marriage Made in Indiana

Governor Daniels and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education are praised for the state’s partnership with the nonprofit, online Western Governors University. The partnership will allow Indiana residents to use state financial aid assistance toward tuition, enroll in new programs every month, and advance based on competency rather than seat time. Governor Daniels and other higher education leaders in the state hope that WGU Indiana will provide another avenue for the state to increase the percentage of the population with a college degree.

 

July 12, 2010: Governors Push College Completion

As President Obama urges postsecondary institutions to focus on graduation rates, many of the solutions are left to the states. Governor Daniels and other governors have been working to obtain data on outcome measures, evaluate the productivity of public institutions, and develop performance funding models for higher education.
